Tappan Model #

Below is a chart that I pulled together with the info. I have discovered so far regarding the different Tappan Deluxe model numbers. I have also included some models just prior to the Tappan Deluxe (some of them share the same body).  I've added some information provided by Tappan Talk readers - Katy & Joe M.

If you have any additional information, I'd love to hear it. Post a comment with your info. and I'll add it to the chart with an attribution to you.

I'm hoping that we can "crack the code" of the Tappan Deluxe model numbers.....years sold...and features.

  1. Hi,
I just re-discovered an old Tappan Deluxe stove in my former tenant's apartment. The stove is in need of some love, and I think I may need to have at least one of the top burner valves re-built. Do you know of any good resource for this? The model number appears to be STV 62-1. Please let me know if you have any ideas for me. Thanks for caring about this stuff!

  2. Joe B - Here are a few of links for you. The first rebuilds parts (including burner valves) they also sell something called "valve cream" (and from what I've read that comes with instructions on disassembling the valves).

    Old Appliance Club

This site is also very helpful. There seems to be some rivalry going on between the sites.

    Antique Gas Stoves

One final observation, is that the Chambers Stoves Manuals are very detailed & readily available. From what I understand, they include detailed info. on rejuvenating Chambers burner valves. I suspect that Tappan valves are not that different.

    Chamber Stoves

Failing that, there is a Tappan reader that has parts for sale and she may have valve replacements. (see left side bar for link).

I am very interested in hearing how this works out for you. I have one burner valve that is touch to turn, but have been putting off doing anything about it. I'd love to share notes (and photos, if you take yours apart to work on!)

Mind if I add your model # to the chart above? Do you have any additional info. on your stove that I could add? Photos to share?

  3. I have just found this site and so far it has been very helpful. I am getting a Tappan stove this weekend. Model #VK66314. I am wondering if anyone out there has converted their stove fron natural gas to propane?

  6. I enjoyed reading the information that you have given about the av 668, but I have a av 668-15m and would like to restore the stove. What websites do you know of where I can buy parts to do this?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Anonymous #1 - I'm glad the blog has been helpful. I' talk to a pro about converting from natural gas to propane. From what I understand, three things need to be addressed: 1)the Regulator; 2) the orifices on the burner valves (propane needs to be smaller); and the burner air shutter (combo of gas & air). The burner orifices on a Deluxe are "fixed" from what I can tell. And that's the sum total of what I have gathered on the topic.

Anonymous #2 - It's my understanding, based on information in the Owners Manuals, that the orifices are fixed and would need to be replaced. You have differing info?

Anonymous #3 - I answered your question over here Your Original Question

Anonymous #4 - It doesn't make much difference what model of Deluxe you have, the parts are pretty much interchangeable. What you need to do it look for a part that has the same features as the one you want to replace (e.g. chrome, plastic, gold trim, chrome trim, etc.) Look on the left hand side of this blog and you will see an email link to a reader selling parts. Drop her an email with a description of what you are looking for. If she's doesn't have what you want, report back and I can give you a few more ideas.

  8. Hi,
Does anyone have any info...like year made... for model no. TV-6219?

  9. Anonymous - It's very difficult to tell by most model #. If you want to email some pictures of your stove to me, I can take a look at it for clues as to what year it might have been made. A link to my email address is on the left side bar.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Thanks StuccoHouse....I will do that. I would love to find out when "she" was made, approx. I am thinking that she is from approximately late 40's to early 50's since she came with my house, which was built in early '50. I am only the third owner of my stove and she works great.

  11. I just inherited a Tappan gas stove, and I am having trouble finding any information on it. The model number is V 65 13. Can yo help?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anonymous - If you look at the labels on the left side, you will see a model 65 label. Are the picture in those posts similar to your stove? In Tappan Deluxe stoves, the model # is not all that important. The model # is more about the combination of features on the stove. Different features are in different combinations on the stoves (e.g. crisper drawers, Telechron clock, broiler foot release, etc.)

  14. My mom has a 60's Tappan Greenbrier 40" stove with all 4 burners along the back and work area along front of stovetop. Oven on right, broiler on left. 15. My Tappan has a pull chain timer clock. I was doing some research on it, and found similar stoves/ovens but not an exact version of the stove. I have narrowed it down to 1930's. Is it possible to find information somewhere with the serial number? How would I go about finding the right person to purchase the stove?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous #1 - That model number doesn't sound familiar. Do you have photos?

Anonymous #2 - I'm not aware of a source for Greenbriar parts. Those stoves are very cool. Keep an eye out on ebay and Craigslist.

Anonymous #3 - the serial number, doesn't offer much info (at least as far as we can decipher so far.) The model # may offer some info, especially on the 1930's and early 1940's models. See chart above. Photos are probably the most reliable way to determine age.

Ebay may be worth taking a look at for parts. If her oven is midcentury, look for a seller named "54monroe" Here is a link to his page: 54Monroe

  19. We have a Visualite Model GVD57 Serial Number 2-7545. We also have what is possibly the original booklet. I have scanned in the cover and will send it to Tappan Talk. We need a replacement part and I would like to have the patent diagrams for it so we can pursue it by name or part number. The part is a metal pipe which links the main gas intake pipe to the oven valve behind the right hand door. It seems that the original threads are ok but the fitting on the lower part of the pipe was not a perfect match and has leaked slightly since ---??? So with that information we are hoping to find a parts supplier or a re-manufacturer to put us back into cooking.

    1. Ebay is probably the best resource for parts. What it for a while to get a sense of what a reasonable price is for the part you need. The prices range from unreasonable to your-first-born-child. Owners' Manuals also come up very frequently there ballpark $10 - 15.

I have also dealt with these folks in the past and have been happy with the price and service: http://www.antiquestoves.com/toac/

  26. Hi everyone~
I walk into my moms kitchen to see her beautiful Tappen stove looked more and more used everyday. The knobs have lost the writing on them to tell the cook what temperature they are cooking on. She needs all new buttons. Is there a place with knobs that are cheaper than $10.00 a piece?

I would be glad to show pictures of what I have, and I would be interested in seeing what knobs you may have to be able to match them with something else.

  30. We are clearing a house to prepare it for renting. There is a Tappan 4-burner Gas Stove Model V663-18 in the house. It works but needs a serious cleaning and a knob or two. Is it worth the trouble to get involved with it? I'm leaning toward taking it to a metal recycler. My brother feels it is worth a lot of money if restored properly. Any comments from someone knowledgeable about this?

  32. We have a Tappan stove model MV-C3. I wonder what year it was built. We've had it for 20 years and it came with our old house and we took it with. Apparently our old house was built in the mid fifties so I wonder if the stove was put in at that time? 33. We have an old 24" Tappan single Continuous Cleaning wall oven from probably around 1985, or so. It has no model number or serial number that we can find (repairman couldn't find either). We are going to get it replaced, but have no idea how to figure out the dimensions to make sure whatever else we get fits without modifications. Is there a standard size from back then that we can use for reference? A website to reference where we may be able to figure out what model it may be? Thanks for any help.

  35. Greetings! I have had a Tappan Deluxe model TV664-1 in my barn for 12 years now and recently took a renewed interest in it after reading this wonderful blog! Back in 2004 I rescued about 90 (yes 90 units!) 40's &50's vintage gas stoves and refrigerators from a set of buildings where they had been stored for many years. I started working on a telechron clock for another stove now in my kitchen and stumbled upon Tappantalk. What great fun it has been to read the comments and learn more about my Tappan Deluxe. I am inspired to get it on the list for a restoration in the future! I hope this blog continues-long live vintage appliances!

  38. Hi! My 1990 stove is new in comparison to some of the models discussed here. Unfortunately, the left hinge of my 36 Series Gas Range is broken and the model number has partly disintegrated/is hard to read. I can make out a series of numbers ending in 2-001 and O1846. Any chance you can help me determine the model number so that I can order the part? Many thanks!

  41. I NEED HELP! We now live in the house my grandfather built in 1964. We still have the original Tappan wall oven and separate stove top. I can not figure out the model number for the oven. I even went to the original people company who had serviced it over the years, I can’t seem to find the measurements of the part number they gave me. I have a picture of the oven. So I was hoping that someone would know what model it is. Here is the model number that they gave me—EVO130-L.

    Thank you!!!

  42. I came across this page, and others, while researching my Tappan Deluxe, and thought I'd post my story, now that I have it up and running. I bought it from a friend two years ago here in Dayton, Ohio, who said it was a 1954, but now it seems to be of earlier vintage. It's in beautiful condition, missing only the burner covers and manual. It's a Tappan Deluxe CP model (series 60?). Model # AV667 3, serial #19334. It has the red knob rings, the two Vycor glass grate inserts, three chrome drawers in the left compartment (but none have the word "crisper" on it), Telechron clock in the center of the backsplash and the Visiminder timer to the left. The oven walls are chrome. Everything seems to work well after some tinkering with the wiring, and it looks great in my old kitchen.

  45. I am purchasing a home with a GTV 62 but I can't find anything about it! The TV 62 models listed on this blog are very similar however mine has 2 receptacles but one on each side of a rectangular clock, not circular. It also has a rectangular meal piece in between the burners. I have yet to find a photo of one with these features.

Any information would be appreciated. I have pictures.

  46. Chaz, I appreciate your hobby for these great appliances My 640 is still in use for the past 30 years since we bought the house it has lived in. I'm getting the back splash light back in service after its guts were removed. Could you provide images with the opal glass light cover removed so I can be aided in fabricating a housing similar to the original. I recently found and bought an opal glass this past weekend and eager to get it installed and working again. Thanks!
